Projects on BetterWorldSolutions last for at least one year. Shorter durations have less success rates.
- What issues are you solving with your product
- Is it already (succesfully) proven – by who and with what results (ask a review from your launching customer(s)
- Your specialism as a business and other products that fit in the themes
- Product specs in a separate pdf.
- The more reviews you share, the more you will earn trust
How do I make a good video?
Videos are required to launch but it can also be a video made of a slideshare presentation. Videos succeed at a much higher rate (50%) so we highly recommend that you include one! Visit Guidelines for tips on making a great video.
Your project video’s file size must be 5GB or less and one of the following file types: MOV, MPEG, AVI, MP4, 3GP, WMV, FLV For video encoding, use WMV format in Windows. On Mac, use H.264. In both cases, the key variable is the ‘bit rate’ so look for that box. If it’s measured in kilobits per second (kbps), try 1500 to start. If it’s measured in megabits per second (Mbps), try 1.5. If the file is too big: Make that number smaller. If the quality seems bad: Make it bigger.
If I choose a subcategory, will my product also show up in the main category?
Yes. For example, if your product is a water energy product, it will appear in the Energy category as well as the Energy sector.
Can I run more than one product at once?
Yes, you can demonstrate multiple products at the same time. Show your products on your company page and choose the subcategories your products fit in.
How do I know someone won’t steal my product?
Being open and sharing products is an essential part of BetterWorldSolutions. The platform is collaborative by nature, and is a powerful community-building tool for innovators and decision makers. If you are unwilling to share information about your product with others then BetterWorldSolutions probably isn’t for you.
We are collaborating our product with others. Can we all be listed as the product creators?
Each product is linked to a single BetterWorldSolutions account, but you can list the members of your partners in your bio, which will show on your company page. You can edit that from your account page.
Is BetterWorldSolutions available in other countries?
We’re working hard to open up in more countries soon. We appreciate your patience in the meantime!
How can I run a product as a nonprofit?
As with all projects it’s important to look at the guidelines
before getting started. Nonprofits and charitable organizations should note that BetterWorldSolutions isn’t for direct charity or cause funding, so your project should focus on what you have created.
How do I include images or other media in my product description?
You can include photos and images in your product description by uploading them from your computer. They must be 10MB or less and one of the following file types: JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP. You can also embed videos and audio in your project description and updates (e.g., from Youtube, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Flickr, etc.). However, you cannot embed your product video; you must upload the original video file.
How long does a product remain on BetterWorldSolutions?
For as long as your contract expires if you want to stop advertising. We will remind you of the expiration date. If we don’t hear anything from you, we assume you want to continue to promote your product on our platform. Products are not closed or taken down, they remain on site for reference and transparency.
Can I use copyrighted material as part of my product?
Don’t use music, images, video, or other content that you don’t have the rights to. Using copyrighted material is almost always against the law and can lead to expensive lawsuits down the road. When copyright disputes do arise on BetterWorldSolutions, we handle them in accordance with the Digital Millenium Copyright Act of 1998. To avoid unnecessary disruption, products in question are typically removed from public view but are not immediately canceled. This keeps pledge authorizations and lines of communication intact, and leaves room for product recovery where appropriate. The procedure is outlined in detail on our Content and License
page. The easiest way to avoid copyright troubles altogether, though, is to create all the content yourself or use content that is free for public use. For example, you may be able to use some Creative Commons-licensed music — per the terms of their licenses — that’s available on SoundCloud
. Other resources worth exploring: Vimeo Music Store, Free Music Archive
, and ccMixter
How long does it take to build and submit a product?
The amount of time it takes to build a project depends on how much work has been done ahead of time. If your reward tiers are already sketched out and your video is ready to go, you can get started pretty quickly. You can save your company page as draft and revisit it later. There’s no deadline to complete your draft and submit. If you are trying to launch in a hurry, there are a few things to keep in mind. Before you can submit your product, you must verify your identity and configure a payments account. The process takes just a couple of days for some and up to a week for others. If there are complications or discrepancies with the information provided, it’s possible it may take even longer. Once this step is completed, a project may be submitted for review.
Does BetterWorldSolutions review products before launch?
Yes we do. A member of our Project Specialist team does a quick review of each product to make sure it meets our guidelines. They’re verifying that it’s a product in one of themes, and that it has a specific, finite goal. Project Specialists may also offer the creator helpful feedback on ways to structure or present their project.
Why review products at all?
Every platform has guidelines for how it can be used. While most sites wait until after something is posted to apply their rules — commonly through user reporting or algorithmic scan — we apply ours before a product launches and people start reviewing it. (We have user reporting and algorithm scans too, of course.) We take our review process more seriously than a lot of other sites because we have to. We’re trying to build the best possible tool for highly qualified products which are a solution for the millennium goals Water, Energy and a Sustainable World. Not the biggest possible platform.
How does the review process work?
We have project specialists, dedicated to the BetterWorldSolutions categories. To review a product, a specialiist will watch the project video, read the description, and take a look at the results. If everything looks good, the project is approved. We let the creator know via email, and they can launch the project whenever they’re ready. If there are smaller issues with the product we ask the creator to adjust. Once the creator has fixed the issue, they’re free to launch. If the project doesn’t fit in our guidelines (it’s not in one of our categories, it’s charity, etc.), we let the creator know that it cannot launch on BetterWorldSolutions. At that point the creator would be free to appeal our decision.
How long does the process take?
Most projects are initially reviewed within 48 to 72 hours. We recommend that creators budget their time accordingly.
What are product updates?
Product updates refer to what is essentially each product’s blog. Some owners may post every day, others may do it rarely, but it’s the best way to keep leads informed of a product’s progress. Creators are encouraged to include media in their updates, whether by embedding them or uploading directly (video files up to 250MB; images up to 10MB).
Can a project be edited after launching?
Yes! Project creators can edit any of the following, even after launching their product.
- Product description
- Product video and images
- Product FAQs
- BetterWorldSolution profile bio
- The BetterWorldSolution PROFILE NAME cannot be edited once the product is launched
Where can I find my product on BetterWorldSolutions?
Every product that launches on BetterWorldSolutions can be found on the Recently Launched
page via the Homepage. Your project will also pop up in the Popular section of its corresponding category and subcategory.
Who should complete the identity verification process?
The identity verification process has to be completed by a single person. If you are running your product as a legal entity, such as a registered company or organization, a person associated with this entity who meets our eligibility requirements must verify their identity as the entity’s representative.
How do I verify my identity?
How do I verify my identity?
