Leonardo DiCaprio donates $15m beating environmental issues
Leonardo DiCaprio’s foundation is going to set $15 million in donations to environmental groups including Amazon Watch, Save the Elephants, Tree People and the World Wildlife Fund.
DiCaprio in a statement: “The destruction of our planet continues at a pace we can no longer afford to ignore. We have a responsibility to innovate a future where the habitability of our planet does nog come at the expense of those who inhabit it.”
DiCaprio started his foundation in 1998 to fund efforts that protect the planet and its endangered species.
Since that time, Leonardo has built longstanding relationships with some of the great leaders and thinkers on the planet, staying continually engaged and active on the most pressing issues we face. He is now supporting projects in more than 40 counties in 4 areas:
- Protecting biodiversity
- Wildlands conservation
- Ocean conservation
- Climate change & access to fresh water
Through his foundation, Leonardo has produced a number of media projects that communicate the urgency of the issues to the public, including two short web films Water Planet and Global Warning, which have been viewed by people around the world.
