Avantium has bought the American company Liquid Light Inc.
Liquid Light has developed the process technology by which chemical building blocks can be produced from CO2. Read More
Is the GreenBattery of replacing the polluting and noisy (diesel) generators at festivals and construction sites?
Nuon and StartUp GreenBattery think the battery capacity should be sufficient.
They are going to let the Green Battery to festival organizations and local governments.
The batteries are half a large shipping container and will be charged with solar and wind power.
ECN – a Dutch research on energy company – claims a breakthrough in CO2 removal technology.
The company is focussing on CO2 capturing and the reuse of CO2.
With the SEWGS technology (Sorption-Enhanced Water Gas Shift), in just one proces step, coal and gas plants, wil operate cheaper and more energy efficient. Read More
Hyperloop One has signed an agreement with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority that could see the firm’s technology applied in the UAE in a new feasibility study.
The Hyperloop concept is based on the idea of people traveling in autonomous pods from Dubai to Abu Dhabi in just 12 minutes (typically a ~2 hour drive). Read More
This SolarWind Bridge could power 15,000 homes. And even better, the bridge could be a vegetables garden.
Designed by Francesco Colarossi, Giovanna Saracino and Luisa Saracino as part of an Italian design contest to re-imagine a decommissioned bridge (for which it placed second), this so-called SolarWind concept would have solar cells embedded in the roadway and an array of 26 wind turbines underneath, which the designers say could produce enough energy combined to power 15,000 homes. Flared gas is a bigger problem than thought. Contrary to what has been agreed with the oil industry, worldwide the industry flared not less, but more gas.
In 2015, about 147 billion cubic meters which is a CO2 footprint of around 350 million tonnes!
The world bank published the figures in a report. Globally, over 16,000 oil wells are flaring gas.
The amount of wasted gas corresponds to the gas consumption of the UK, Germany and Switzerland together. If the gas was burned in a power plant, it could supply the whole of Africa with electricity. Read More
The Battolyser, which will be used as a super battery in a gas power plant, is becoming a reality.
For the first time, TU Delft researchers led by Prof. Fokko Mulder have produced an integrated battery electrolysis system – known as a ‘battolyser’ – that can not only store or supply electricity efficiently as a battery but can also split water into hydrogen and oxygen using electrolysis.
Even if global warming is capped at governments’ target of 2C, 20% of the world’s population will be to migrate to higher area’s because of rising sea levels.
Countries like the Netherlands and Bangladesh and cities including New York, London, Rio de Janeiro, Cairo, Calcutta, Jakarta and Shanghai would all be submerged because of melting polar ice caps and sea-level rise. Read More
LA City Council members Paul Krekorian and Mike Bonin coauthored legislation for a fast route to 100% renewables for LA. With an appreciative nod from the Sierra Club, the news reported at 11district.com follows:
“LADWP is on the verge of making significant investments in its infrastructure, and with that 100-year-old power system in need of significant upgrades, the city has an opportunity to re-create its utility in a way that recognizes the potential for a fossil-free future, demonstrates global leadership in its commitment to clean energy, and protects ratepayers from the increasing costs of carbon-based fuels.”
Under the current plan, emissions are expected to drop. Under a new plan, they could drop to zero!
The first electric highway of the world is developed in Sweden.
It’s a two-kilometer stretch of freeway in central Sweden with power lines stretched over the righthand lane.
SolarCity – started in 2006 in California – fulfills all consumer renewable energy needs. From power generation to storage and transportation.
As an aggregator, they offer a full service lease construction:
An Energy Hub in the middle of the North Sea? Tennet launched a vision building an island as a hub, for wind power in the middle of the North Sea which will provide all neighboring countries green energy.
By connecting wind farms with a total capacity of over 30 gigawatts, the efficiency and costs will benefit the participating countries.
This news has been reported by the American magazine Forbes. But, according to Nocera:
this bacteria does not solve the CO2 problems.
Last May, Shell launched a new division for renewable energy, Martin Wetselaar, now responsible for integrated gas (including LNG), will lead the division ‘New Energy‘. Is Shell moving towards renewables?
The new division will be transferred to the existing activities in hydrogen, biofuels and renewable power generation. It will also be used as a basis for new activities in wind energy. Read More
Delta Areas will be protected by an International Coalition.
That’s the result of the international climate conference ‘Adaptation Futures’, May 11th in Rotterdam.
Countries agreed to work together to create resilient urban delta areas against a rising sea level rising because of the climate change. Read More
