A consortium of six Dutch organizations parties is developing an unique project: the world’s first floating solar park at sea. The ‘solar ísland’ should be a solution for locations where land surface is scarce, such as islands.
Utrecht University will investigate the energy production of the floating solar park. The park is located about 15 kilometers off the coast of The Hague on the North Sea.
27 Giga watt Hour green power for the Google data center, Eemshaven Netherlands
Google has signed its second power purchase agreement with Eneco, one of the Netherlands’ leading electricity providers, for all the electricity produced from the country’s largest solar park for the internet behemoth’s new data center.
In November of 2014, the two companies revealed that Google’s newest data center in Eemshaven in the Netherlands would be completely powered by renewable electricity from the get-go, thanks to a PPA for all the electricity produced from an Eneco wind farm in Delfzijl, near Eemshaven.
The Google data center was the “fourth hyper efficient facility in Europe” and the PPA was the third for Google signed in Europe in an 18 month period.

TenneT’s thinking is based on an island with a modular structure, with each module covering approximately 6 km². This is big enough to provide space for connecting roughly 30 GW of offshore wind capacity. The island will be expandable by adding one or two modules of 6 km² each

By connecting wind farms with a total capacity of over 30 gigawatts, the efficiency and costs will benefit the participating countries.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has announced a comprehensive plan to significantly increase investment in renewable energy projects.
Announcing its annual budget, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) stated that it will float tenders worth Dh 27 billion (US$7.35 billion) to set up renewable energy projects. The projects are expected to be commissioned through the independent power producers model.
The Authority did not give any details for the likely renewable energy projects that will be pursued. However, among the largest tenders would be for the next phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar power park.
The first large phase of the solar park, with 200 MW capacity, is being constructed by ACWA Power-led consortium. Another tender for 800 MW capacity has attracted interest from global project developers, and the winner of this phase is expected to be announced soon.
DEWA plans to increase the total capacity of the solar park to 3 GW by 2030, so a number of tenders are expected to be issued. The Authority is expected to develop other renewable energy and clean energy projects.
Dubai has set a target to increase the share of renewable energy in its total energy mix to 7% by 2020. The medium-term and long-term targets for renewable energy share are 25% by 2030 and 75% by 2050.
