Sponsh absorbs water from air and releases it. When it‘s cold, like during the night, Sponsh gets moisture from the air to exude during the day.
It is a temperature-sensitive special coating, that is hydrophilic with low temperatures and hydrophobic with high temperatures.
It consists for 90 percent of recycled PET. You can roll Sponsh as a cloth around almond trees or vines, but also place it on the ground to directly provide crops with water.
Construction of the Rainshell concept and its filter bed of shells and minerals to retain and simultaneously clean the runoff water.
Last week, VP Delta opened a living lab facility for new storm water catchment concepts for a more smart way to handle storm water in cities.
As a result of the expected increase of extreme rainfall events, several Dutch SME-companies developed innovative concepts to handle extreme volumes of storm water and store in underneath hardened urban surface. Read More
Since this month, the Nuclear Research and Consulting Group (NRG) has been testing a ThoriumMolton Salt Reactor (TMSR) in Petten, the Netherlands. It is the start of the first of several experiments in a test reactor with the goal to produce data that will support the TMSR development.
Since the early seventies, the NRG researchers have been the first to investigate the possibilities of a molten salt reactor with Thorium instead of Uranium.
27 Giga watt Hour green power for the Google data center, Eemshaven Netherlands
Google has signed its second power purchase agreement with Eneco, one of the Netherlands’ leading electricity providers, for all the electricity produced from the country’s largest solar park for the internet behemoth’s new data center.
In November of 2014, the two companies revealed that Google’s newest data center in Eemshaven in the Netherlands would be completely powered by renewable electricity from the get-go, thanks to a PPA for all the electricity produced from an Eneco wind farm in Delfzijl, near Eemshaven.
The Google data center was the “fourth hyper efficient facility in Europe” and the PPA was the third for Google signed in Europe in an 18 month period.
Between the years 1986 and 2006, Toronto experienced not one but eight storms of the magnitude that had been predicted to occur no more than once in a quarter-century. The Finch Avenue Washout was the capper, a one-in-100-years storm for which the city’s infrastructure was woefully under-designed.
The Netherlands is to host a new Global Centre of Excellence on Climate Adaption (GCEA), set up by the Dutch and Japanese governments in collaboration with the UN environment programme (UNEP).
Paris agreement
The centre will advise countries, businesses and organizations on how to adapt their practices to comply with the Paris climate change agreement, which comprises measures designed to keep the global temperature increase below 2 degrees.

TenneT’s thinking is based on an island with a modular structure, with each module covering approximately 6 km². This is big enough to provide space for connecting roughly 30 GW of offshore wind capacity. The island will be expandable by adding one or two modules of 6 km² each
An Energy Hub in the middle of the North Sea? Tennet launched a vision building an island as a hub, for wind power in the middle of the North Sea which will provide all neighboring countries green energy.
By connecting wind farms with a total capacity of over 30 gigawatts, the efficiency and costs will benefit the participating countries.
This plan was presented by TenneT last week. TenneT is the national high-voltage grid operator in the Netherlands and in a part of Germany. Read More

Will we keep our feet dry? Rivers are rising fast!
Since May 31th, it’s awfully raining in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. It looks like the monsoons we know from South East Asia.
The next days, the water level in the rivers Rhine, Waal and IJssel, will reach maybe the highest level ever in summer times. A water level of more than 14 meters above sea level is not usual for this time of year. Read More
Interconnections are necessary to ensure the continued security of supply in the European electricity market and to secure the the supply of renewable electricity between European Countries.
The EU (European) Grid for renewables is connecting more and more countries. At this moment an interconnector is build from the Netherlands to Germany.
The Dutch Grid company TenneT uses a new proprietary ‘Wintrack Mast’. This ‘Wintrack Mast’ has a much smaller electromagnetic field than conventional masts and – because of its sleek design – it fits better in the living environment. Read More
