Gasunie Presents European GasAtlas

GasAtlas

Future gas sourcing will have an impact on the supply of gas and together with the two key uncertainties for gas demand, will indicate the future gas transport needs.

The GasAtlas of Europe provides an overview of the evolution of demand for, and supply of gas in Europe in the next years. The ‘GasAtlas of Europe‘ is published by the GasUnie.

Driving on hydrogen seems to be the future. But the shown hydrogen cars ain’t completely green. Still Toyota and Hyundai have made a valiant attempt. Last year, Hyundai presented an existing SUV that had been converted to a hydrogen car. Toyota introduced the new Mirai, designed with a fuel cell.

The next few years, Shell will build a network of hydrogen filling power stations in Germany.

By 2023, 400 Shell service stations will be equipped with a hydrogen filling station.

Shell is investigating the opportunities in other countries. Read More

Supersonic plane on hydrogen

Airbus, hydrogen, electricity, renewables, plane, airplane, patent

The plane reduces the noise of the sonic boom — a loud bang caused by shockwaves created by an object moving faster than the speed of sound.
“This noise has been the main limit, if not the only one, preventing the opening of lines other than transatlantic ones for the Concorde aircraft,” the patent says.
The plane does that by being “near-vertical,” like a rocket, while ramping up to supersonic speed and its cruising altitude of 30,000 to 35,000 meters — 20 kilometers higher than conventional commercial aircraft.

Airbus has received a patent for a design of a supersonic passenger plane on hydrogen. Thanks to ultra-modern engines, the airplane can achieve speeds over 5,500 mph.

The granted patent discloses an apparatus which is provided with delta-shaped wings, provided with three different types of engines:

  1. turbojets for taxiing, takeoff and landing
  2. a rocket motor for rapid acceleration
  3. ramjets for high-altitude cruising

The plane will be fueled by hydrogen and liquid oxygen. Read More

Skepticism about fusion reactor Lockheed Martin

Fusion, lockheed marin, critism, experts, green energy, renewables, compact fusion reactor

The Lockheed team is focusing on plasma containment following successful magnetized ion confinement experiments

Aircraft manufacturer Lockheed Martin is working on a nuclear fusion reactor that fits into a shipping container. International experts react skeptical. The Russians tried this already in the 60s without success. According to Lockheed Martin the 10 times smaller installation, generates as much energy as experts generate in a building named a Tokamak.  Read More

Lockheed Martin’s R&D Fusion: clean power for the future?

Fusion power, sun, energy, nuclear, CO2, gas emissions

Nuclear Fusion is inspired by the sun. Is this the holy grail at the end of the energy process?

Lockheed Martin believes fusion energy is the future. In their opinion fusion energy is the ultimate form of renewable power. For scientists and engineers the sun is their inspiration because it is the biggest natural fusion reactor we know.

They think they will manage to have clean power for the world in 20 years. There is also skepticism about this Fusion project. Read More

Wave Energy Conversion Competition Offers Cash Prize

wave power or hybrid?

Green Ocean Energy’s Wave Treader energy conversion device is a step closer to becoming certified. The device adds more generation capacity to an offshore wind turbines, by harnessing offshore wave energy. It is mounted at water level on the wind turbine foundation/tower, and harnesses energy from oncoming waves. This increases the energy yield of an offshore wind farm significantly.

Ricardo has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to administer a ocean Wave Energy Converter (WEC) prize challenge, aimed at helping to bring this potential source of clean energy to commercial scale.

Wave energy conversion is technology that uses the motion of ocean waves to create electricity.

A new way to produce hydrogen from clean, renewable energy sources

hydrogen, new energy, low costs

By using excess solar or wind energy the cost of electrolys hydrogen can be reduced significantly when produced in high volume.

In a paper published in September in the journal Science, the University of Glasgow explained  explain how they’ve created a system that can produce hydrogen 30 times quicker than ever before.

Finding good methods to store renewable energy for the off-hours has been a challenge. By producing hydrogen using excess energy, renewable power companies could store power and use it later.

Build your energy neutral house and stop global warming

Build energy neutral

The energy neutral residence was the first passive house in Amsterdam – the Netherlands. It was designed by Pieter Weijnen of UPFRNT/FARO

Everybody who is involved at a better world, greenhouse gas emissions, climate change etcetera, thinks about his own possible contribution. For example by building a house which is climate neutral.

Maybe you haven’t notice yet but look at passive houses. Passive House (or Passivhaus) (PH) was first established in Germany and is quickly becoming a standard in many parts of the world.

Stumbled upon opportunities: Kefalonia Island (Greece)

Kefalonia Drainage is the challenge in Greece, also on this island. It appears that the diameter of drainage pipes was estimated too small by the time of the first installations. It is forbidden to flush toilet paper and that is annoying. Anyone with a good idea for this, starting upon the island of Kefalonia, will be a rich man.
