Polysilicon Shortage: Production Solar panels in Danger

Prices drove from $14 to $19 a kilogram

A Polysilicon shortage probably is causing problems for the solar panel industry. Producers of solar panels expect high costs and lower margins due to an unexpected shortage of raw materials.

Last months, the price of pure metallurgical  silicon, the most important raw material for solar cells, rose by 35%. According to news agency Bloomberg, the price rose after officials in China closed several factories. Read More

LeydenJar battery breakthrough with pure silicon anodes

LeydenJar battery technology

Only 3 or 4 companies worldwide are develop batteries with pure silicon. With a simple and direct application, LeydenJar is the first in the world.

LeydenJar developed a new pure silicon-based anode to boost lifetime and capacity of lithium-ion batteries. The result: the yield is a 50% higher energy density.

LeydenJar is a spin out venture from Energy Research Center ECN, developing pure silicon anodes that can generate up to 50% more energy density in Li-ion battery cells.  Read More
